The first day I walked into his office I felt an incredible longing in my soul. The moment we touched, I was breathless, a deep ache running straight through my heart. I had a feeling I wasn’t alone, but he was my boss, and damn the man for being the utmost professional.

Nearly four years have passed since that day. Four years of seeing his boys, of knowing he was a Daddy to each one of them, but never to me. Now with only days left until I walk away from my beloved job, knowing I won’t see him anymore pains me. Until a twist of fate—a chance encounter in Ace’s Wild—changes everything. Maybe now I can be the boy he’s always needed—finally permitted to be caged in by his ownership.

  Chapter 1

  Camden

While he wasn’t quite three sheets to the wind, a very pleasant buzz had Camden feeling carefree. He sat at the big dining room table of their rental house, surrounded by his people. His three roommates and best friends were there: Dylan the tall, lanky, cross country runner with a ready grin and light-gray eyes; Brian, a Latino heartthrob who was shorter than Camden’s five-foot-eight but model gorgeous with tan skin, sculpted good looks, and chocolate-brown eyes; and Jacob, his muscular, weight-training-obsessed friend with dark-red hair and a face and body covered with a million beautiful freckles.

Their next-door neighbors, a pixie of a girl with short, strawberry-blond hair and a peaches and cream complexion, named Ruby, and Adira, a statuesque Italian, long haired beauty with a quirky sense of humor, spent more time in the guys’ house than they did their own. They were a beautiful couple and so much fun to hang out with.

The six of them were like a pack. If they weren’t at work or school, they were together, either doing something fun or doing nothing at all but hanging out—which Camden had to admit, he preferred. At the moment, they were playing a nearly-drunk version of truth or dare, and he was spacing out in a drink-fueled haze, waiting for his turn and hoping they’d skip him, but knowing they wouldn’t.

  “Earth to Cam.”

  He looked up, confused. “Huh?”

His friends chuckled, and for what was probably the second time, Ruby asked, “I said are you going to miss working at Big D’s? You gave your notice and only have one more week left, right? I bet you’ll miss Daddy, won’t you?”

Everyone guffawed at that, and Camden completely regretted telling his friends about those few times one of Reed’s “boys” had accidentally slipped in front of others and called him Daddy.

Brian snorted and Dylan spoke up, “Oh, he’s going to miss that Big D all right!”

He groaned and rubbed his hands over his face. “Shut up, jackass!”

Adira leaned forward in her chair, wide-eyed. “Oh, come on, you give him so much shit, but who at this table wouldn’t miss working for that gorgeous, lumberjock, sex god? Hell, Ruby and I are lesbians, but even we’d miss seeing that on the daily.”

Out of all those words, only a few stuck out to Camden. “Lumberjock, sex god?”

Ruby playfully shoved Adira, answering for her. “I mean…she’s kinda right. The sex god bit is obvious; the man has the ladies and gay men falling all over themselves to try and land themselves a Daddy.” She looked at Adira skeptically. “But, babe…lumberjock?”

Adira threw her hand up in the air, dramatic to her very core. “What? He’s huge, I mean, at least six-four or five. He’s muscular like a lumberjack, he played football in college like a jock, and he’s such a man’s man. Outdoorsy. Lumberjock is perfect.”

That explanation seemed to suit as everyone at the table nodded, and Camden admitted, “Yeah, it fits.”

Adira smirked at Ruby. “See? When I’m right, I’m right.”

Ruby leaned in and kissed Adira. “Of course you’re right, babe.”

Jacob spoke up. “Plus, that beard…”

They all seemed to collectively sigh. “Yeah, the beard…” Camden agreed before he could stop himself, drawing a few chuckles from his friends. He knew they were teasing him, but he also knew deep down it was true. He was going to miss working for Reed—seeing him at work every time he had a shift, smelling his cologne when they were in the same room, missing his boss’s casual touches when he walked by. A pat on the back as he passed, a grip on his shoulder when he told Camden he was doing a great job, the occasional lunch they’d shared together… Yeah, he’d miss Reed, for sure.

He’d had a crush on Reed Daughtry from the first moment he’d laid eyes on the man during his interview. Hell, who wouldn’t? He was at least six-foot-four, fit and muscular, but not too bulky. He had dirty-blond hair that was really short on the sides and pretty long on top, which was always messy and sometimes fell in his eyes. Camden always loved watching him scoop it back absentmindedly, picturing himself doing it. And Reed’s full beard, darker than the hair on his head, was a groomed piece of art that took his face from good looking to all thirty-one flavors of Baskin Robbins yumminess.

He remembered applying to a ton of jobs but being so excited when he’d been called into Big D’s Sports and Spirits, a bar and grill he and his roommates had gone to several times before. He absolutely loved it. The food was great, the drinks were amazing, and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed with endless things to do. It wasn’t your typical sports bar—it was a sports bar on crack.

  It was a big place
with two floors of every bar game you could think of; axe throwing being the most popular, darts, pool, cornhole, bowling, foosball, and shuffleboard, as well as a whole room filled with classic standing arcade games. You could also check out table games and other board games. It was a mecca for game players. There were two bars with full kitchens as well, one on each floor, with one serving pub-style foods and the other more of a dining style. According to a few people Camden had talked to, the servers got great tips.

But when Camden had walked into Reed’s office that day nearly four years ago, it had been like the air had been sucked from his lungs. They’d locked eyes, and although Reed had stayed professional, standing up to shake Camden’s hand and introduce himself, Camden knew…he just knew…their heated gazes had been mutual. He’d been half in love with the man from that day on.

It really was too bad Reed was such a professional. Camden had never, in all the years he’d worked there, seen Reed treat any of his employees with anything but fairness and respect. The man was always doing little things for his people. Random food brought in from outside their place as a treat, an hour extra in pay if they’d done a great job during a busy night, employee nights where he’d shut down the bar to outsiders and all of his staff would enjoy free food and drinks while playing all the games.

Camden jolted when Brian gripped his shoulder. “But seriously, man, you’re the first of the four of us to get a professional job. I mean sure, you’re an accountant”—he yawned jokingly—"but you’re going legit adult on us.”

He laughed and nodded. “Legit adult. That’s me, for sure.”

Everyone began talking around Camden as he poured himself another drink, wanting to keep his buzz alive. When he tuned back into the conversation, he realized Brian was giving Dylan a truly pathetic lap dance, complete with thrusting, gyrating, and sex noises. There might have even been a “Yee-haw,” but he hoped he was wrong about that. He wasn’t sure that was something he’d recover from.

Clearly his friends were actually fourteen-year-old adolescents refusing to grow up, but he found himself laughing with the rest of them and realized he was right there with them. He heard Adira call over the din, “Jacob, truth or dare?”

Jacob, cocky as ever, answered, “Dare!”

Adira pumped her fist. “Yes! Okay, I dare you to write a little love note to that professor you’re in love with.”

The whole table erupted into laughter and cheers. Camden gazed at Jacob, whose mouth gaped open, eyes widening as he shook his head. “No. No way!”

Adira snorted and nudged him. “You have to. You’re the one that chose dare!”

  “Yeah, but not that!”

Dylan tossed back the remainder of his drink and added, “Yes, that! You’re not getting out of this one. We’re not falling for that again! You’ve had a crush on Professor Handcock all year! We’re graduating in a week. You have nothing to lose.”

Jacob snorted. “Oh, yeah…nothing but my self-respect.”

Brian joined in saying, “Come on, all you have to do is leave a note at the end of your final paper. He won’t even know you sent it until you’ve already left class. Just write, ‘Dear Professor Handle-my-cock, I’m no longer your student, and you’re no longer my teacher. For a good time, call…’ and then leave your number.”

The rest of the table guffawed as Jacob covered his lobster-red face. “You guys are all a bunch of assholes.” Everyone laughed at that long running joke between them as he continued, “Okay, fine, I’ll do it. I hope I don’t die of embarrassment the next time I see him in town.”

That brought Camden out of his happy haze. “Pfft. You told me, mournfully I might add, that you never see him anywhere in town.”

Jacob turned his death glare on Camden. “You know, it’s your turn next! I’m not taking it easy on you.”

“Ohhhh, Camden’s gonna take a pounding from Jacob!” Ruby’s drunken singsong voice had him rolling his eyes, unable to hold back a snort of laughter when she giggled so hard, she nearly fell off her chair.

“Whatever. You forget how well I know you, Jacob. You’re not that creative.”

“Oh shit!” Dylan roared with laughter, fist covering his mouth as he pointed between Camden and Jacob. “Dude, Camden’s feeling ballsy tonight, y’all!”

Adira crossed her arms over her chest, her challenging gaze taking them both in. “Well, I mean, Camden’s not wrong, but he’s stupid if that smirking glare Jacob’s shooting him isn’t making him nervous!”

Everyone at the table laughed. Everyone that is, except Camden and Jacob. No. They mock glared at one another until they finally gave up and joined in the hysterics. He admitted—to himself only—that the look on Jacob’s face was making him a bit nervous. He could see by the twinkle in his friend’s gaze and the smile that was turning into a maniacal grin, that he had reason to be.

  Fuck.

Jacob raised his hands and then moved them down and up several times in the universal “simmer down, now” signal. When everyone was quiet, Jacob turned in his chair towards Camden, a challenging look in his eyes. “All right, funny guy. Truth or dare?”

He was about to say truth, because they all basically knew everything about him and that would be easy. But he answered, “Dare,” at the last minute, never one to back down from a challenge. The gleam in Jacob’s eyes gave him pause, but all Camden did was raise a brow and say, “Do your worst.”

“So, you think I’m not creative, huh? Okay then…I dare you to go into Ace’s Wild tomorrow and pick out something crazy that you’d never want anyone to see you buy in public and show us what it is when you get home.”

“Oh, damn!” Ruby raised her hands to her mouth and shouted, “Do you like apples?” Everyone else followed with, “How do you like them apples?!”

All six of them slammed back a shot, their never-ending game of using movie lines while drunk was always on the table. He kept his laughter in check and managed to glare at them, shaking his head. “Why am I friends with all of you?”

Brian put his palms up and shrugged. “I dunno, man. We’re all a bunch of assholes.”

There was a beat of silence before everyone busted up laughing. It reminded Camden of the night they were all drunk and had a lengthy conversation about how they all loved anal play. Adira had shouted that line out, and it stuck as their response to pretty much anything from then on.

His face scrunched up, and he groaned as he hit his head against the table repeatedly. Jacob had really brought his A game with that dare. Brian pushed him back, laughing. “Dude, you’re already going to have a headache tomorrow from all the booze. Don’t make it worse!”

“I hate you,” Camden grumbled at Jacob, not feeling one bit better about the dare when everyone laughed and started calling out an array of different sex toys. He couldn’t help saying, “I hate all of you.”

Yeah, his friends were a bunch of idiots, but they were his idiots.

Camden walked alone into Ace’s Wild—an adult store that sold what he guessed was nearly every single sex-related object money could buy.

Sure, it was a bet, but Camden wouldn’t deny the little zing of excitement that had gone straight to his balls the night before when he was finally given an excuse to visit the mildly notorious sex novelty store.

Although, he had to hand it to Ace and Wilder, the older couple who owned and ran the place. They had a pretty good reputation for a couple of guys who were selling what they were.

They were active in the town’s LGBTQ+ scene, helping causes they were passionate about. And though others may assume they did so to avoid too much scrutiny of their business, Camden knew from volunteering with both men, they were as genuine and caring as they seemed.

Wilder was a fairly small man, with a blond business cut and glasses, green eyes, and a calm, peaceful demeanor. His partner, Ace, was African American with gorgeous dread locks, brown eyes that were always twinkling with some inherent type of happiness Camden wished he could bottle up and sell,
and had more muscles and height on him than any one person needed. The older couple were madly in love and always joking around together.

It was the first time Camden dared to step foot in the store, and though he was embarrassed, he had to admit it was a nice set-up and had a welcoming atmosphere. Even if it was full of depraved and wicked things that could supply pretty much anyone—from the most vanilla housewife to the kinkiest BDSM Master—with whatever they could think of to sexually gratify themselves and their partners. And if they didn’t have it, Camden was sure they could get it.

He walked in the store, hoping to remain incognito, but both Ace and Wilder were at the front counter and looked up, smiles on their faces when they heard the bell above the door signaling his arrival. They both looked surprised yet happy he’d stopped in. Wilder came out from behind the counter first, followed by Ace. “Hello, Camden. I haven’t seen you in a while. How’s it going?”

Sucking up his embarrassment and putting on a brave face, he smiled and approached them, hand outstretched. Clasping Ace’s hand first, followed by Wilder’s smaller one, Camden answered, “Hey guys. It’s going pretty well. I’m about to graduate and start a new job. So that’s pretty exciting.”

Wilder, still holding onto his hand, tugged him in and gave him a quick hug before letting him go. “That’s awesome, Camden. Good for you! So, tell us what brought you here today. This is your first time in, right?”

Camden could feel his face heating up as he nodded. “Yeah. Umm…” He rubbed the back of his neck and looked down at the floor, unable to keep his feet from shuffling. When he finally looked back up at them, he cleared his throat. “So, here’s the thing…”
